  PUBLIC ACCESS BUILDINGS
The Rehabilitation Center • New Haven, Connecticut

Splintered across the landscape in three separate and dysfunctional facilities, the Easter Seals/Goodwill Center needed to consolidate its facilities in order to effectively serve its constituency. Giordano was asked to join the architectural firm Matthews, Thompson, and Connell to bring about a metamorphosis to an empty and non-descript one story building on Hamilton Street in New Haven.

To do so, the original building was radically redesigned. The original roof was removed and the substructure was reinforced. A two-story infrastructure was imposed into the reinforced shell, and the original roof was reinstalled on the new two-story element.  By also giving a harmonious new design to the finished building, what was once a caterpillar is now a butterfly.
